Scriptures to help us Understand The Power Of Forgiveness

We live in a world, where we can become tempted with the things of the world, where we can lose faith and focus. There may be times where we hurt others, we become disengaged from the word, and become lost from the things, that is not pleasing in God's eyes or pleasing in our own.

But we have a Savior, who sacrificed his life for our sins. With Christ the battles we face has already been won, we just need to trust what he went through for us. He stays by our sides and he looks for the good in our hearts and he keeps our paths alight with forgiveness, because he loves unconditionally and will guide us, no matter what journey we are on or how far we have fallen.

We are blessed to have a God, who wants to help us through our trials. A God who loves us so much; to be our strength, our friend, our father, protector, provider and sustainer. A God, who wants to help us outgrow the cycles of brokenness.

Forgiveness is a process, that we all have to go through in life. It doesn't mean we've forgotten the pain, the disappointment or the doubts, but it allows us to learn from our mistakes and it unlocks the trauma in order for us to become victorious.

Forgiving someone even when we don't want to, gives us the power to free ourselves from the mental and emotional cage that they may have trapped us in.

Forgiving ourselves for our wrongdoings, allows us to understand our ways and it frees us from the burdens of guilt and shame that we have had to carry.

Forgiveness is the stepping stone to spiritual growth and the freedom in our lives. We don't realise how much anger, bitterness and sickness that unforgiveness stirs up within us and it is not healthy for ourselves or for those around us. Forgiveness allows us to break those chains that have kept us in the darkness and it allows us to heal in time for Psalms‬ ‭Chapter 107, verse 2 reads:

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary.

Here are some scriptures that may be useful, in our time of forgiveness.

‭‭‭Ephesians‬ Chapter ‭4, verses 31-32:‬ ‭

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor [perpetual animosity, resentment, strife, fault-finding] and slander be put away from you, along with every kind of malice [all spitefulness, verbal abuse, malevolence]. Be kind and helpful to one another, tender-hearted [compassionate, understanding], forgiving one another [readily and freely], just as God in Christ also forgave you.

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭Chapter 3, verses 13-14‬:

Bearing graciously with one another, and willingly forgiving each other if one has a cause for complaint against another; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so should you forgive. Beyond all these things put on and wrap yourselves in [unselfish] love, which is the perfect bond of unity [for everything is bound together in agreement when each one seeks the best for others].

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭Chapter 86, verses 4‭-‬5:‬

Make Your servant rejoice, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul [all that I am—in prayer]. For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our sins, sending them away, completely letting them go forever and ever]; And abundant in lovingkindness and overflowing in mercy to all those who call upon You.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭Chapter 10, verse 12‬:

Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers and overwhelms all transgressions [forgiving and overlooking another’s faults].

Luke‬ ‭Chapter 6, verses 27‭-‬28‬:

But I say to you who hear [Me and pay attention to My words]: Love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies, [make it a practice to] do good to those who hate you, bless and show kindness to those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

‭‭‭‭Matthew Chapter‬ ‭6, verses 9‭-‬13‬:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

I hope you find these scriptures useful, in the search of healing. Remember that, even when you have fallen short of God's glory and even when others have hurt you, God will be there to renew and restore you.
