hey, let me reintroduce myself

My name is Vanessa and I was born and raised in South London; grew up in a very big family. My Grandparents had 7+children, so as you can imagine, the amount of grandchildren running in and out of her house! I grew up with my sister and brother and later found out, that I had two sisters on my dad’s side! So the family just grew even more, but I am thankful to know and have my siblings around me, along with more members of family, whom I am grateful to have met and although being the eldest has its challenging moments, I am very blessed, to be surrounded by love!

I am very sporty and love fitness; I studied Level 1-3 in sports and fitness; with Table Tennis, Badminton and Football, being my top favorite sports and although I didn’t pursue a career in this field, I haven’t forgotten what to do! I am still on a fitness journey, which I will definitely be writing about! I love to cook and having a chef as a husband, I have a lot to live up to! But I am thankful for his tips and to him for enjoying my cooking, with a complimentary smile!

As mentioned on my homepage, I am a poet and a podcaster. I have been writing poetry since the age of fifteen. There was a period, where I and my best friend from secondary school, would write little friendship poems to eachother, with little drawings. I'm sure I still have those somewhere. But before poetry, I used to write songs and there’s still one song that my sister enjoys me singing/rapping! (You might hear it one day haha)

You know they say, sometimes it takes an event and an experience in life, that triggers a gift or a passion? Yep it’s true! When I was fifteen, my Gran passed away and I remember going home from school but it was different, because my little cousin was told to come with me. We got to my mum’s house and my stepdad broke the news to us. I just remember me and my cousin crying into each-other’s arms and my stepdad, comforting us. Sadly, six months later my Granddad passed away. So it’s true what they say about true love and broken hearts..

As the days went on; I was surrounded by sadness and tears, but also surrounded by the beautiful memories that my Grandparents left and with all the mixed emotions, I began to write. Write about how I was feeling since I was told the news and then I thought, why not turn some of the sad moments, into a happy one? So, I wrote a poem that I brought to my Grandparents’s house and I left it on the table, for every family member to read. Once I saw the smiles through the tears, once I heard laughter, through the crying, I knew then; that I wanted to write further, I wanted to make people happy and I wanted to fill people with encouragement, despite whatever situations they are going through.

I am grateful for the years I got to spend with my Grandparents; because their love and their relationship, has left me with a grateful heart and it has opened a fire within me, that has given what was a hobby, a new found meaning.

From the age of around 17; You could say that I began to feel a little more confident with my writing, there were peers who took my folder to have a read of the poems I had written. Furthermore, I started writing poems for people for special occasions, such as; birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, funerals and for every day motivation. I found, that being able to share what I could do, made a positive impact to those around me. (Even when they’re confused on how, I can write a full A4 poem under 10 minutes) I still do not know how I did and sometimes do, but I believe once there’s passion and a purpose in what you’re called to do, then sometimes, everything falls into place in a short amount of time..

Fast forward a few years, here I am, still writing and exploring different avenues!

In 2017; I released my first book, Love and Life’s Collaboration. I still can not believe that I actually have a book published! If you haven’t yet purchased yours, it is available on Amazon. I won’t spoil it for you, so go ahead and check it out..

In May 2018; I got married and in August 2018, my son was born, so yep, I was married with a bump, which I was actually happy with! It was a beautiful day, the sun was beaming, the sky was blue and the day was celebrated with good food, amazing friends and family. I am still getting used to announcing myself as Mrs, but I’m getting there! The events in the evening of the wedding, took a turn, but I’ll tell you more in my blog, along with my journey of Motherhood!

In June 2020; my podcast journey started and I have to say thanks to lockdown. Although the reason behind the lockdown is not the best; I am grateful for the time, because it has allowed me to start something amazing, it has given me time to focus on passion and use it, in another creative platform. I can’t believe a year has gone past, since I started, but I am looking forward to where I am going!

In August 2021; we finally got our house and so the last few months, has been very busy with moving in and getting settled. It’s been challenging but exciting at the same time and it’s been such a blessing to have our prayers answered. We thank God for hearing us and for giving us this opening door. We’re nowhere where we want to be with the house, but slowly and surely, we are getting there. The front room is near enough complete, so onto the next rooms we go! I still can’t believe it, but I am very thankful indeed. We look forward to what 2022 will bring us!

So that’s enough about me for now, but don’t leave yet, there’s more ahead, on all things love, life, faith, well-being and family!
