Fruits For Thought
June ushers in the season of warm days, cool breezes, and endless opportunities to soak up the sun under clear blue skies. It's the time of year when flowers burst into bloom, birds fill the air with their cheerful songs, and the kitchen becomes less of a hotspot—literally! When the temperature rises, it's all about keeping cooking to a minimum.
One of my favorite things about the late spring transition into summer is the abundance of fresh fruits and salads. They often take a backseat during the colder months when hearty comfort food is a must. But as this season approaches, fruits and salads seem to taste even better as you can jazz them up in so many delicious ways!
Fruit Cocktails/Mocktails
Imagine a yummy bowl of your favourite fruits, mixed into one, or a nice fruit punch to cool you down? If you want something more than a fruit cocktail, a nice strawberry daiquri mocktail, would do!
Smoothies/Milkshakes
I do love a nice smoothie! My best one yet, is banana with vanilla Alpro milk and a drizzle of some honey. If you haven’t tried that yet, I suggest you do! It will shake you up for sure!
Fruit Salad
I have never been the one to have a fruit salad, but picture this; it is hot summers day and you are not sure what to add to your lettuce and cucumber? Why not add some apple slices, they will sweeten up your dish, in no time!
apple Pie/fruit pie
You can never beat a fresh, warm Apple Pie; especially when the apples in the middle are juicy, yet not too sweet and when the pastry is light and fluffy and topped with some cold custard. Mmmm yummy!
The list goes on, but here are a short list of the most popular fruits, that are harvested throughout June and doing my research, some benefits they offer to us physically and mentally.
Strawberries
Yummy yummy strawberries! They are so colourful, flavourful and deliciously juicy! If we get a box of strawberries in our household, just be aware, that those could be finished within a day!
According to the Healthline; Strawberries, are highly nutritious and are a good source of Vitamin C; which may help with weight management, supports heart health and consists of those antioxidants, we require for overall good health.
PLUMS
Look at these plums, how can we resist these beauties?
They may be petite, but they are packed with all the nutrients and antioxidants, that our bodies need. I came across an inspirational quote, which says “ a plum a day, can take the anxiety away” Which is what we all would like right?
According to the Healthline; as Plums contains natural fiber, they can help with reduce our blood sugar levels and a good fruit, to heal those upset tummies!
Grapes
Red grapes, are my son’s favourite fruit, alongside blueberries. When he was little, he never used to like the skin on them, but as he’s growing up, he is now able to eat them with the skin on. I am so glad he enjoys them, because grapes contain the minerals and vitamins, a child needs!
According to the Healthline; Grapes can help rejuvenate the skin and most of all, they help boost good eye and brain function, which is something we would benefit from!
Watermelon
If these were sitting in front of you, would you be able to resist them? I wouldn’t! Watermelons; as messy as they get, don’t they taste amazing!?
Did you know watermelons are filled with 92% water? I knew it contained a lot of water, but never it contained so much. So at least we know, they will keep us hydrated. (But still make sure you have intake of water.)
According to the Healthline; Watermelon contain Vitamin A, which may helps to keep our eyes healthy. They also contain beta-cryptoxanthin, which is a natural pigment, that may help reduce inflammation to our joints.
Who knew, watermelons, could keep us watered with so much goodness?
I didn’t plan on having a red theme with the fruits, but I guess, it was meant to be!
The colour red symbolizes many things, but in this case, lets go with excitement and love. Excitement, for getting our health in order and loving how fruits transform our lives; physically, emotionally and mentally.
Fruits are our friends and if we let them to get close enough, we see, just how much of a positive impact, they can have! Of course, like with anything, too much fruits, can have its downside, but today we are all about the positives!
